Cross Mountain Park will soon have a new entrance and better sidewalk connectivity after the City of Fredericksburg received a donation from the Nimitz Rotary Club.
The Parks and Recreation Dept will remove the existing entrance that leads from the parking lot to the park's main trail. The demolition work will be followed by local gate and rock contractors who will set in place a new gate and rock entrance with a wider walkway.
Later this year, a new sidewalk will be built from the south side of the park along the parking lot to the new entrance. The entrance is slated to be completed by the end of August and the sidewalk work completed by the end of October.
During construction the park's main trail will still be accessible. There are no park closures planned during the installation. In the future, the City plans to add an additional sidewalk from the park to Cross Mountain Drive.
